Apricot Houses

Playing catch-up on the 52 weeks of color challenge (I’m sure you’ve all heard that before)…

The top is from Indie Rose – a wonderful store with an awesome creator! Like I mentioned in my Melon post, “salmon” has served me well during this color challenge! I was totally on board with looking at this top and seeing it as a salmon color, but I can see how it like apricot, and was pretty much right on when I compared the RGB values. Funny how what we actually see, and what definitions say we should see, are often different things.

The house (that you can only see a tiny bit of here) is from *Funky Junk*. You’ll see it again in my next post as well, and I just love it. It reminds me of home. Where I grew up, you had a great view of the mountains, you were 20 minutes from the beach – and could drive to any weather you wanted. No, I didn’t grow up in a bubble, but it felt like it sometimes. Now that I’m not there, things like this house make me a bit nostalgic – I guess everything is better in hindsight.

Thinking of Frescos…

Nothing terribly exciting to say, just totally in love with these print dresses from MichaMi. I feel like I’m wearing a fresco.  I took these pictures a few days ago, but I wanted to do something a bit more with them, so I hadn’t posted until now.  (Which is just another way of my saying that you will likely see them again.)

I decided to post now – not just because I feel like something this cool should get love (and it SHOULD), but also because one of the colors is at The Dressing Room right now, so you can get it for less than normal.  (Not that they are terribly expensive to begin with, they are definitely not – that’s another thing I love about MichaMi.)

Non Sono Una Signora

There’s a lot I could say about Mila Tatham’s “Non Sono una Signora”, but I think I’ll let it speak for itself.

Non Sono Non Sono Una Signora

Okay, enough of that. I love this. I love the way it came together, but mostly I love the dress and the headpiece. They remind me of Rome, actually, and how you can walk down the street and into a random Church and there is an original painting most people only see in textbooks, just on the wall.  When I first moved there, I didn’t get that.  It weirded me out that these priceless works of art were just sitting there, not in a museum.

What I began to understand, though, is that the art doesn’t belong in a museum.  The whole city is a museum (of sorts).  Art belongs where it is intended by the artist – whether it is on the wall of a Church, or being worn by someone walking down the street.  Everything is an exhibition.  That’s something I have missed since I left.

I’ve always been torn about some things. I like the convenience of cities, but I like the quiet of small towns. I even like getting lost from time to time, but I tend to think that the more lost you get, the more you can find yourself.

Where was that place again?

One note: this is the usual windlight setting with local lights turned. More pics with and without local lights on my Flickr.

Surely this isn’t the uniform…

A little over a week ago was the anniversary of the founding of Rome, a city very dear to me for lots of reasons I won’t babble on about right now. It got me thinking that I really wanted to do something with the helmet that had been sitting in my inventory for for too long.  This just kind of came together.

Practing Elegance

I had this long thing where I was going to show off all these really cool dance poses and make a narrative out of it, but as I was re-reading it, I realized I really wanted to talk about the stuff in the pictures.

Sometimes I see something and it’s like the designer reached inside my brain, took out an idea and plopped it on the grid – and sometimes they do it with a whole look. I generally try not to put together a whole outfit from one place (unless it’s a set or a costume or something), but when it seems like it was plucked out of my head, I’m not going to question, I’m just going to wear it! Seriously though, I’m a little worried that Nena Janus has developed mind reading abilities…there is some weird stuff floating around in my head. (Oh, like there’s not weird stuff in everyone’s head.)

Practicing Elegance

Ok, so why am I so excited about this outfit? When I joined Second Life, I didn’t really understand what it was, but I had these visions of a little ballerina avatar dancing across my screen. Dancing is something I have always loved, but for lots of reasons it was something I couldn’t pursue. So, hey, if I could do it in a virtual world, that would be awesome. Long story short, I had a hard time finding anything dance related (ballet or otherwise) that wasn’t… wasn’t what I wanted it to be. Does that make sense? Then I found this really cool store called SPIRIT. It was the first place I had found that had any of the things I was looking for in clothing and poses/animations, and I was SO excited. Since then, a lot more “dancewear” and a ton more dance poses have come out on the grid, and most of it has ended up in my inventory, but SPIRIT is always going to be special.

Maybe you just never forget the first creator who reached inside your head?
